Now, Gentle Breeze herself showed the wisdom of many dreams in her work. She would become a second year VisionKeeper her… a Spirit Woman.
Water Snake approached the Grandmother VisionKeeper and tapped her shoulder.
“Gentle Breeze,” she said.
She was welcomed, and the VisionKeeper motioned for her to sit.
“Gentle Breeze,” she began, “I would speak with you of your year.”
Gentle Breezed nodded, waiting.
“My time as a Keeper of Time ends this year.”
“Who will take your place?”
“We are talking.”
Gentle Breeze nodded, somewhat puzzled.
“What can I tell you?”
“You have worked with Black Coyote as a guardian. She is due to be initiated as an Oracle this year, as you know.”
“Yes, I loved working with her. She is one of the best to learn guardianship from, it is said. But why do you ask me of her?”
“I am thinking you might continue her teachings,” Water Snake shrugged. “She and Two Knives are sure to have Oracle seats in council. She see things, sometimes.”
Gentle Breeze nodded agreeably.
“Yes, her medicine is strong. So, when do you know?”
“Tomorrow. Mother will call us to bate in the Sacred Waters. For three days we will be secluded until the Initiation begins.”
“I will attend to her once the ceremony beings.”
“Of course. All will initiate.”
The VisionKeeper nodded.
Water Snake rose to depart. It was only custom, the protocol of their Society, that had her speak to the woman. In a deeper sense it was an enjoyable task. It was such things that made the retiring Oracle proud of her life. It was a reassuring thing, respect and honoring extended to each.
She went into the dusk of the evening and thread her way among the womyn to where Red Cloud was feeding others, and paused to put food out for the Oracle as well.
“We will go to the Springs early,” she mentioned causally. “We will return in the night while others dream three nights beyond.”
Water Snake nodded, only half listening. She was recapping in her mind, the rituals they would do. In the interest of a light, powerful initiation, even the new womyn would be triggered.
All were proficient dreamers, though their skills were still developing. The 1st Guardian Dreamers awakening would connect on the other side before the end of a year’s time. It was not unusual to assign these acolytes to a seasoned Oracle and VisionKeeper Spirit Woman, to rock gently the dream teachings as they worked through the physical sensations that came with change. The acolytes could relax, and dream and grow their changing participation, secure in the close guidance with the nurturing warmth of these others. It is little wonder that among the hat’ii Society, dreaming had become as natural as living.
Grandfather Sun had barely touched the horizon when the Oracles of hat’ii were headed to the Sacred Waters… the Healing Springs, and the Crystal Cave beyond. Red Cloud carefully adjusted her basket of tools. She began to walk.
The early morning was crisp as they were joined by Little Crow and Black Hawk.
“Let’s get going,” Black Hawk admonished.
“Of course, Black Hawk,” Red Cloud chuckled happily, looking forward to the dream prophecies. “We’ll see you there.”
Little Crow watched them through her clouded eyes. She could see overlaps in the time distortions. She could not have explained how she did this. There was only the thought, letting go and seeing, somehow.
The heart of Little Crow was very light.
