There could be no better year for it, could there? Part of Bear Rock’s anxiety was because she was feeling Winter Falcon change. Little Star had said, that this year “we align with the Mother.”
Certainly, it seemed reasonable that their energies were sensitive to much stimulation, and change was definitely stimulating.
A soft step behind her brought Winter Falcon to her feet quickly. Two Knives stepped and motioned the other to resume her seat. She joined her on a nearby rock.
“Grandmother, you seem to be in-between, may I sit with you.”
It was not quite a question.
“Oh, I don’t need an akicita, Two Knives,” Winter Falcon pulled in. “I only…”
“I know!” Two Knives waved to her patiently. “You’re changing.”
There was a long silence while Winter Falcon waited. What did the VisionKeeper know? At last the younger woman spoke.
“Grandmother, you and I are very different, but I think we feel some of the same things.”
Winter Falcon felt her sincerity, the young woman’s breath in her own chest. At last, the VisionKeeper spoke again.
“We are sensing a shift within Mother Earth, that will also change us,” Two Knives continued.
Ah yes, thought Winter Falcon. She senses it too. Somethings are felt best to experience with others having similar experiences.
“We have worked together a long time, you and I. And we have changed together before. What have you taught me? There is always change.”
Something about Two Knives and their history made Winter Falcon smile. She dropped her resistance and spoke straight to the other, woman to woman.
“Yes, we have journeyed well together, my friend. The time is here to choose, choose my successor. It’s time for Oracle training.”
“Oracle training?” The other was incredulous. “How can this be?”
Winter Falcon shrugged, and they laughed like children.
“Who knows? I only know we have done a lot to get this far.”
She paused, blew her nose. She had nearly confided to the young woman that she was the VisionKeeper under consideration by the Council for Winter Falcon’s seat. She tried to assume a more nieve stature.
“The council has received the names to be considered when two of us become Elders. They will announce these during the ceremony.”
Two Knives nodded. She knew her name was under consideration. It was difficult for her to comprehend not being with her elder.
“Very well. But no matter the choices, I am always here for you. I’ll keep working with Bear Rock if it’s appropriate.”
There was only the hint of transition, which indicated they understood one another. There was also the sincere commitment, from the initiate to her friend, who through love, Two Knives was approaching as an elder. The love was so great, that Winter Falcon was proud.
“Of course, Two Knives.”
